Diffusion Experiment Reflections - Period 7

Here is the place for you to post your reflections on our diffusion experiments. Since it's a reflection, you will be sharing your experiences: what you liked/didn't like, what you learned, what surprised you.

Be sure to think through all the phases of the project:
  • Designing an experiment
  • Having your experiment reviewed by another group
  • Working with your partner
  • Conducting your experiment
  • Preparing your presentation
  • Sharing your work with others

You all did a really good job with the projects. I look forward to reading your reflections.

The diffusion experiments were interesting, fun to look at, and fun to do. This has been a really fun experience to do. This experience really helped me understand diffusion.

The partners I worked with were a BIG help in the whole project. Without working with them I probably would not get the project finished on time like we did. We all split up the materials for each of us to buy and it worked out well.

We needed cream, milk, coffee, poster board, cups, ice cubes, hot water N Js sandwiches and it took us about a weekend to get all of the materials needed for the experiment.

When we were conducting the experiment everything pretty much went well. Since we had all the materials to do the experiment we finished up pretty quickly. The coffee that we made really went around the room and a lot of people were able to smell the coffee. When the sandwiches were left out not to many people smelt it but other things like perfume that other groups had sprayed.

When our group put together the presentation it looked good. We put on pictures of us working, the lab, pictures of the materials we used and a little more. When we put all three poster boards on the table I really like how the layout was on the table and a lot of people noticed and came to look.

When other people saw our groups work and what we did for this experiment I was not really nervous. Altogether our group felt proud of what our presentation came out to look like.

I really liked this experiment because it was really interesting looking at other peoples work and seeing what they experiments on.

Diffusion Experiments Reflection
By Ava P.

Isabel and I were partners and thought for awhile on what our diffusion experiments would be. We wanted them to be good diffusion experiments but, fun at the same time. We eventually came up with Marshmallow in Microwave and Bubble Bath In Water. Both experiments turned out to be really fun, fun to create, and watch as we did them.

We designed each experiment based on the materials we had to get. Like, marshmallows, timers, bubble bath, microwaveable plate, etc. It wasn't that hard to find the materials since we could easily get them at CVS, but remembering to bring our materials in was the hard part. We both had to call our mothers.

After we designed our experiment and we had another group look at and I wasn't that surprised when they said we didn't need to fix anything. Because Isabel and I were sure our experiments would work out great.

Isabel was a HUGGEEEEE help! She is so smart and fun to be with. It wasn't difficult to work with a partner because she is one of my best friends so we got along great but we are also great workers so we were able to stay focused. *most of the time* She really did a lot of the writing, and it was hard to start out PowerPoint projects by myself when she was absent. That shows having a partner is a HUGE HELP.

OUR MARSHMALLOW EXPERIMENT WAS SO MUCH FUN! People say you are not supposed to stare into microwaves but we did. Even though our marshmallow did not explode it was still suspenseful. It was tricky to tell if the marshmallow was going to explode or not because it kept shrinking and expanding! It was really tricking grabbing the plate out of the microwave as soon as it ended to measure the volume of the newly diffused marshmallow but it made it fun when we got to eat them after.

Our bubble bath experiment did not work out quite as we seemed but it was still fun to do. The bubbles in hot would either be big and the bubbles in cold would be small so it was hard to tell which temperature water diffused the bubble bath quicker.

Preparing for our presentation was stressful!! The first day Isabel was not here, so I had to start them by myself and it was hard! But the next day Isabel fixed everything and did her share of the PowerPoint. We did not know if we needed to add anything more so we kept adding as much as we could. It was fun to look at the pictures and remember how much fun we had while experimenting each experiment.

When we first tried to open our PowerPoints, WE COULD NOT FIND THEM! I was so worried if all our hard work got deleted. But I was even more relieved when we found them. I wasn't nervous about showing my work because I felt it was really well put together and that people would like it. I like seeing everyone else's presentations because you saw them while they were performing their experiments but you never knew what they were actually doing.

This diffusion experiment was one of the coolest ones I’ve ever done. We had so much independence, and we designed the ENTIRE project on our own, as opposed to being given an experiment by a teacher. I had a fabulous time working with my partner, and we both had a blast conducting the experiments and making the presentations.
Designing an experiment was one of the best parts of the project. It involved so much creativity, and we pretty much went crazy with it. We could do whatever we wanted (well, pretty much), and it was fun just imagining what we were going to do when we actually got to conduct the experiment.
Having my experiment reviewed by another group wasn’t super exciting, so it wasn’t my favorite part of the project. However it did help because the people reading over ours caught a few little details that we had overlooked.
Working with Ava was great (well, most of the time…. =]). She’s one of my best friends, so it wasn’t awkward at all, as it sometimes is if you’re paired with a person you barely know. We had no major problems with each other, so overall it was a really smooth partnership.
Expanding marshmallows in the microwave was so much fun! Who knew I would ever get to do that in school?!? Unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it) none of them blew up—how hilarious would that have been =]? But aside from that, everything we expected to happen happened and nothing went wrong at all. The one thing that could be improved was that we had to measure the marshmallows really quickly after they got out of the microwave because they shrunk really quickly. The best part of this experiment? Eating the marshmallows, no doubt about that.
The bubble bath in water was also fun (but not as fun). It was hard measuring the water because we didn’t have proper measuring cups so we had to use a plastic cup and mark a line on the cup and take an estimate about how much water that was. It was also difficult to measure how much space the bubbles covered. Not to mention that the bubbles were all different sizes. Other than that though, it was fun.
I LOVED preparing the presentation. It was extremely stressful at first though, because I was absent for the first two days, so Ava had to do all the work, even though I had the notes in my locker. On top of that, we didn’t realize we would get to work on it after the break. Once we figured we had more time, though, it was fun. We played around with them a lot, and it was fun designing the layouts and adding pictures.
To be honest, I was never nervous about presenting my work. Ava and I had done a great job with the Power Points, and we both knew it. They both came out great, so we were really excited to show others what we had put together. It was really satisfying to “show off” (I don’t meant to sound big-headed, I just don’t know how else to word this) what we had done after all the hard work we put into the project.

I liked this experiment because we could choose any way to show diffusion. I thought it was really fun making up a way to show diffusion then watching it. My partner and I decided we were going to show diffusion by dropping mentos into coke.

Working with a partner was a lot of help. I like it a lot more then working by myself. I like it a lot more because everyone understands things differently and have a different view of things. Which I think made our experiment more creative.

For our experiment we needed diet coke, mentos, and a stop watch to time how long the diet coke stayed up in the air after we dropped the mento in. It was easy to get the materials because all we had to do was go to CVS. The hard part was remembering to bring them in, since we both kept forgetting them at home.

When we conducted the experiment everything went pretty smoothly. Since we had all the materials it only took us a day to do the experiment and collect all the data. We went outside and placed the diet coke in the middle of the blacktop then put a mento into it then backed away. Then we timed how long the coke stayed in the air before settling back into the bottle. We were surprised that it took so long for the mento to defuse in the diet coke. We predicted the coke would shoot up out of the bottle after one second instead of five.

My partner and I made a Voki for our presentation. We typed my cell phone number into the Voki website then they called us and we recorded our presentation. It was hard to do because we had very little service but it worked out okay.

When everyone listened to our presentation on the Voki it thought it was funny how we sounded. I think we did a pretty good job, except the ending sounded kind of weird because we ran out for time and didn’t want to make a whole new Voki for just one more sentence.

Reflection

I thought that designing the experiment was fairly easy because we came up with the ideas really quick. And they worked out well. I felt really good having other people view my experiment because I felt good looking at other peoples as they were looking at mine, so it wasn’t a problem for me at all. I liked working with a partner because I defiantly couldn’t do those experiments by myself. And plus my partner was a really good friend of mine so it went really well. Well our first experiment was really easy to conduct because all we had to do was chuck paintballs out a window and see how far they went. Our second experiments went really easy to because all we have to do was sit and watch bread sit in water and time it with a stop watch. Preparing our presentation went good because we made a poster and we put our problem, hypothesis, variables, procedures, conclusions, and put a couple of pictures on so it went good. Sharing my work with others felt good because I knew our project was good so it wasn’t a problem with me.

I thought that the diffusion experiments that me and my partner came up with were pretty good. We wanted to get the experiments over with but it took us a while since our ideas didn’t work with diffusion but after a while we came up with some experiments that were good for us and that it worked with diffusion.
When another group had to review our experiment it was pretty easy since all we had to do was give them our experiments and they would look it over and see if we had any mistakes on our experiments.
Working with my partner was great because he did everything that he said he would and he would always stay on task and worked really hard so that we could finish our experiments on time. He would bring in the materials on the day we needed them and it all worked out in the end. It was fun working with my partner.
It was fun conducting our experiments because we got to work with soda and after we finished we got to drink it. It wasted a lot of time from class but it was fun to do the experiments. My partner worked real hard when we had to do them so we ended finishing our experiments much faster then we thought we would have.
It was really easy preparing the way that we presented our experiments since all we had to do was just take out the poster we made on diffusion and place on a table, take a computer from the cart that Mr. Ardito brought in, and just for us to watch the other kids hear our voki that we made.
When our experiments were looked over by other people I felt nervous at first because I thought that I might have messed up on something and it would be noticed by anyone but it turned out to be good. After I looked at my experiment and everyone else who had done a experiment it showed that everyone had done a really good job at putting together their experiments and how hard they had worked to finish their experiments.

My Reflection

I think this was a really cool project! It was really cool that we got to work like real scientists and do the same things they do. It was a great experience.

Coming up with the design for the experiments was kind of tricky. At first, I wasn’t quite sure how to represent diffusion, but after I thought about it, it seemed simple. Both Jamie and I had ideas for the experiments, but we had to choose between some of them. After we had picked the experiments, the actual designing wasn’t as hard as I thought it might be. We figured out what to do pretty quickly, considering that we had never thought on the experiments before that time. It was nice and straightforward.

My Partner was Jamie and we worked together really well. We did all of our experiments together, and had a minimal amount of disagreements. If one of us forgot something, the other tried to do it. Also if one of us had to do something else the day that we decided to work on he project, the other backed up. It was a really good experience working with Jamie, and I’d like to work with her again on a future project.

The gathering of the materials took a little more work than we had planned. We didn’t have much that we needed, but one of us forgot something at home, and we had to compensate for what we didn’t have. The perfume that we got smelt really bad and it stuck to everything. Not the best experience. We also had trouble getting a cold enough day to do the experiment. The day that we had to settle with didn’t work as well as we would have wanted, but we had no choice so we stuck with it.

Conducting the experiment was also a little bit stressful. As I said before, the day we settled with for the Breath Test wasn’t cold enough for the experiment to work as well as we wanted it to, though the temperature was just within the range that we needed it to be in. So we got results that we didn’t really like, but we had to stick with. The Air Freshener test was formally the Air Freshener and Perfume test. We got rid of the perfume part after our incident with the bad smelling perfume. We changed that experiment to the Air Freshener Diffusion at 10 and 20 feet. We did that one in the hallway, and it work perfectly. After the changes, that is. I have no idea, now that I think about it, how we would have done the perfume part.

The presentation was quite easy to put together. We basically put all of our data that we had put together on it, along with the outline of the experiment. We used some of the pictures that we took as we went along with the experiments. It was a little stressful also because Jamie and I started working on the project in class, and weren’t half way done by the Friday before the break, when it was due. It was a relief that we got extra time, to do the best that we could have on the project. We really needed the extra days.

When people saw our work, I was relieved that we were done. It was fun to here what others thought about our project. But it was also an ending to a fun project. The display was exactly what we were planning, and nothing mal functioned, which is really good. All in all, it was a success.

Reflection
The first day of our Project my partners and I planned right away on whose bring or typing what.
When designing the project we had some conflict, we weren’t 100% sure about how we would get all of the materials. Each of us brainstormed about how we would be able to get everything by Monday. On Monday we all had our materials ready.
Eventually, when we had all of our experiments typed we had to get them reviewed. I thought it was really helpful to show what we did to others. When we did this, we were able to catch a lot of mistakes. This helped us improve our experiment.
With partners the project was a lot easier and fun. It would have been harder to time and observe our experiment at the same moment without partners. We were able to split the work and get everything done.
When doing our 1st experiment we had trouble. Since our experiment consisted of the diffuse of smell and there was a lot of others doing the same. So it didn’t work the way we wanted it to. The 2nd and 3rd experiment went better because it didn’t involve the environment surrounding it.
After the experiment we focused on the presentation. None of knew how to work power point so we did posters. It was easy to get all the info typed and ready. We had fun finding pictures and pasting them to the poster.
At the end of all our hard work we had a celebration. We got complements on all of our hard work.

My Reflection

For my project, I worked with Katie on our two experiments. I really enjoyed (most of) the entire process. I’ve always been interested in science, and being to design my own experiment was fun. I liked being able to do whatever I wanted for it and then get to show it off.
Designing the project was really cool. Since the only guidelines were no explosions and it has to show diffusion, there was a lot to work with. But never design experiments with perfume. EVER. Trust me, bad idea.
When it came time to have our experiments reviewed, I was like, ‘fine, okay, whatever…’. That’s not really a jump for joy kind of thing for me. All it is is having your experiment looked at. So what?
Partners can be fun. Partners can be aggravating. Sometimes partners are just partners. , Katie and I were almost entirely partners that were fun. I really couldn’t imagine the projects turning out so well without her. But I guess I was an aggravating partner when I completely forget bringing things in. (But Katie still had my back) And when I spilled perfume, she helped me get all of my smelly linens in the bag while laughing about how bad the perfume smelled. Partners just make everything better. (Not to mention a LOT easier…)
In conducting our experiments, we hit a few ‘minor bumps’ along the way. Did I say minor bumps? I meant GIANT MOUNDS OF DIRT! (with mud) The first problem we ran into was the weather. On day one we were going to do the breath test. But when we went outside, you couldn’t see the breath because of the wind. So we went around back to see if the conditions were any better, which they weren’t, and got locked outside (!). So when we finally got back inside, we decided to do the perfume vs. air freshener test. So I went to put some perfume on one side of the room, and spilled the bottle on me. I had to remove all of my extra clothes (jacket, scarf, hat) and put them in a garbage bag. Then I ended up in the nurses office ½ of the next period with a rash and upset stomach. That is why you NEVER use perfume. EVER. So the next day we had pretty nice weather conditions, wind-wise anyway, so we decided to take another stab at the breath test. We took our thermometer and check the temperature. It was 45.1 degrees Fahrenheit, which was just barely in our range of temperature. But we did the experiment anyway, getting results, but the results would have been more accurate if we had waited for a colder day. The air freshener test went without a hitch.
The preparation was…difficult, to say the least. At first we were all happy and confident about our power point. But as time passed, our foreheads got even more creased and our patience on threads. We barely finished in time, still having to sacrifice a few help and lunch periods. ( so sad) And when I threw an Inspiration into the mix, we were just frazzled and fried. But we finished, thank gosh, and got our work up with everyone else.
Speaking of presenting our work, I absolutely LOVED sharing our experiments... My old 5th grade teachers were there, and they had me walk them through the presentation. Seeing how people’s faces were reading the presentation filled me with happy. I also liked seeing other peoples presentations. I like looking and critiquing (in my head) pretty much anything. I really liked the movie of the marshmallow in the microwave. Super cool Ava and Isabel.

Designing me and my partners experiment was a very good way to learn diffusion. I think doing hands on projects are the best way to learn. The experiment went well and was efficient. They were fun to do and fun to watch.
When other groups reviewed our experiment papers for what we planned on doing they sad it was a good idea and it didn’t have any defaults. No body told us to change anything. We did not have any problems or challenges with showing it to the other class members of the class. Showing others our ideas was easy and went well.
Working with my partner was fun. We finished our two experiments and the different parts of our presentation rather quickly, yet efficiently. He was a big help in our experiments. We evened out the work evenly and ended up with an OK project. I will have to say the greatest part of our experiment was drinking the soda from each different cup after the experiment.
Conducting me and my partner’s experiment went smooth and we didn’t have any problems. Both the experiments were really easy. All we had to do for our first experiment was set cups on a table and pour a bit of soda and time the fizz. Our second experiment was even easier than the first one. Light a candle and record when it was smelt, EASY! Both the experiments were extremely easy and couldn’t have gone better.
Setting up our presentation was also easy. In class I and my partner made a poster. We both put the scientific method for both the experiments on it with some illustrations. We both made “VOKI’s” and I made a power-point for both experiments. Setting up the presentations was easy and we didn’t have any problems.
I think most people liked it although it wasn’t perfect. I thought that people might have liked the power-points and the poster. I personally liked seeing others do there actual experiments live. It was probably cool for them to see ours too (or drink our soda). Although I don’t know who saw it, hopefully they enjoyed looking at it.

Dear Mr.Ardito,

The two experiments I did were Marshmallow in water and Blackberries in soda. With blackberries in soda it was kind of a challange for me. At first I used a cup of blended blackberries and would see what happend to them when I put it in soda. Well it didn't go so well and I ended up uses teaspoons of cut up blackberries. The second one marshmallow in water was way better. I put a big marshmallow in water for a day and then compared the volume from before and after I put it in water. It turns out the marshmallow gets thinner, but taller. It was really fun. I shown my experiments on a poster board. I drew pictures of observations and I wrote what I did. I think it was very nice, pretty, and neat. I was alone on my experiement which I thought was bad because I had to worry about bringing in the materials, but I also could be the boss and not have to go with someone elses plan. Geting the materials was hard because I could only do it when my parents had free time so I had to plan ahead, but It was also easy because most of my materials weren't that exspensive. I kind of liked people looking at my experiments because it made me feel good about all my hard work, but I was kind of nervous. I also liked looking at other peoples experiments to see what's their opion on diffusion. I really liked this activity and hope we do something like this again.

It was fun but a little annoying. I did most of the work while Marcus sat there and talked. He asked a few times if he could do something and he did the Voki (that was pretty good I guess. But most of the time it was me.
I brang in my ideas for an experiment and we decided on water evaporation, unfortunately Marcus' idea had no relation to diffusion so I had to go to Mr.Ardito for one. We came up with An egg in vinegar. At first I was excited, later I found out that it was basically just a mix of rotten eggs and vinegar. Not the BEST choice, but atleast we had something. When we had to gather the materials I decided to bring in the eggs and Marcus would get the water bottle. Mr.Ardito would supply the vinegar & beakers. Marcus was out the day we started on the experiments so I had to start on the egg and vinegar experiment and wait for tomorrow to get the water evaporation going.
Marcus came in the next day with no water bottle so we asked about how much water there was in a average bottle, 24 oz. (about 600 millileters). We started on the experiments and we collected a lot of data at the end of the day, or atleast I did, I never actually saw Marcus's notes for sure. I was doing everything well when I came in one day to see a giant Fed-Ex truck outside my evaporation window blocking the sunlight, I gon't know how long it was there but it altered the evaporation rate, I don't have it listed as an actual variable since I don't know about it, how long was it there, did it come when there was most sun? Stuff like that. So that experiment was screwed up. And then I found that Andrew and Ben had the same experiment as Me and Marcus. The eggs were different at the end so we wanted to see if it was the vinegar that changed the results or the eggs themselves, We cut each egg in half. Theirs popped like a balloon and ours looked like a hard boiled egg (but it didn,t smell like one after being soaked in vinegar for a few days. We put half my egg in their vinegar and half in ours, then the control group egg was put in theirs too, 1 day later no difference, must have been the eggs. I don't know what messed up chemicals they were using that made it seem like Andrew & Ben's egg was covered in leather.
Making the power point wasn't hard but it was a little annoying that Marcus played Fun Brain most of the time. Then he did the voki so it's fine.
It felt weird having everyone look at my experiment and I'm just happy we didn't have to grade them. The food was pretty good though so I didn't worry TOO much.

Nic.

My partner and I took a long time to think of good experiments, we wanted 2 that would be fun and that still tested diffusion. The two experiments we came up with was how far the paint from a paint ball would splatter from different heights and from different angles. Our second experiment was we were going to put bread in a beaker of water and we were going to see how long it took for the bread to diffuse.
Having other groups look at our experiments was a little weird cause I thought we might have missed something or did something wrong. It turned out that every thing was ok and we didn’t forget or do anything wrong.
Working with a partner made the project more fun but my partner and I worked together good and didn’t get distracted but it was hard not to get distracted cause we got to choose our own partners so every one was working with a friend.
Actually doing the experiments was a lot of fun, the paintball experiment went well ands just how we planed it to go. The bread experiment was a little different we thought that the bread would diffuse and expand, but when we did it that really didn’t happen it only did a little. In the middle of it we changed it to we thought that it would dissolve and turn into a bunch of little pieces, but that didn’t work very well either so the bread experiment didn’t really work.
In the beginning it was stressful cause we didn’t have a lot of time so we were really rushing and then when gave us more time it was like a lot of weight was off of my shoulders. I thought that the extra time made a very big difference in our experiment, I thought that it made it so much better.
Sharing my work with my friends and other teachers was lots of fun. I felt so good about sharing my work cause I was proud of what I had done and to see the final product was great. To see others work was good also because I got to see their great work and I got to see what I could have done better if I ever got to do it again.

Science Reflection

During this science experiment we had to come up with experiments of diffusion. My three one was milk in coffee, another was ice cubes in heat, and the last was the smell of J n J’s. these experiments were not to hard to think of because they were all fun to do. When we were designing the experiments it was fun because it was mostly about things we liked, so it didn’t take long for us to come up with the ones we liked.

This experiment was also a lot fun to do because I got to work with my friends and unlike some people I work well with my friends. Me and my friends came up with a way to make sure we had all our materials for are experiments. What we did was we made sure that each one of us was bring in at least one thing for our project. In the end we had every thing we needed.

When we did our J n J’s experiment we realized that it did NOT go as we planed it to. Our hypothesis was that over a period of time the longer period of time that the J n J’s sat out, more and more people would smell it and know what it was. The experiment did not do what we thought it actually happens that only two kids smelt the sandwich through out the whole period. My partners and I think the reason for this is because the sandwich did not defuse as fast as we thought, and also there were many more smells in the room.

We decided that how we were going to present our experiment was to give information and show how we worked all on three posters. Putting together the posters was not hard because we all got together pictures for the posters of Mr.A’s website blog.

When we had others come into our class to view our work we all put up our posters and saw every ones else’s posters. This was really great because I got a lot of complements from other students and teachers. I also got to see all of my classmates work. That was really great because I got to see how all of there hard work came out, and we also got to have some snacks for celebrating what we did.

Science experiments

I loved doing the science experiments because Daisy and I were able to male up the experiment. I think it was really fun also because you were able to design your own poster. My last reason I like it is because I got to work with a friend. I liked working with a friend because we have a lot in common so it is easer to work together. When we got the materials it wasn’t hard we first made a list of all the things we are going to need and then we split it in half to see how many each of us is going to need to get. Once we started to put the experiments together we realize that it wasn’t as easy as we thought. It takes a lot more time then we thought it would. We needed to take a lot of notes, and look at it really carefully to make sure we would be able to have the correct information. When we put together the experiment we needed, poster, markers, sticky post-it’s the letter ones, and 3-D paint tubes. It was really fun making the poster because we got to make it. We put in a lot of extra time on one Sunday we spent 5 hours on it. But it came out really nice so all the hard work paid off. When we were putting the information on the poster we split it in half. On one side there was the poison berry and on the other side there was the celery. When we put everything on it Daisy put all the celery things I put all of the poison berry things on the poison berry side. Then we both decorated with the 3-D paint tubes. When other people saw our work it felt good because we worked so hard and now everyone finally got to see it. A lot of people came and saw our work and it made me fell really good. We got a lot of complements. We didn’t know how it was going to turn out because I the beginning we didn’t have the best plan. We worked very well together. It was a lot of fun!

Science Experiment
Our science experiment was to see if the dye in the cup will be absorbed by the celery and our other experiment was that if we squashed the poison berries in water will the color of the poison berries spread but it didn’t work. Then after we gathered of research, we agreed to make a poster to represent all our data. I think working on designing our poster went really well and worked out great even though we didn’t have a lot of time to work on our project. In this experiment I worked with a partner. Working with a partner was great and we both did an equal amount. Sometimes, someone was not there we did a good job working without the other person. We did good bringing in the materials when we needed it and when we did our project too. In the project we had to do some little changes when we did our experiment. We agreed to use poison berries but we couldn’t find it so we used blue berries and we thought that it was not going to work so we took the poison berries from the front of the school but we worked it out well. Making our experiment went will and easy. We used 3D markers to design the empty white spaces and typed the information and the data. At the end of making this project we had a little party and we set up our project. There were a lot of people in the room looking around the room and looking at the other people projects. Some people asked me some questions that I could not answer before but it was nice to see how hard I worked hard and what people thought of it. This is one project I liked making and thinking what others thought of.

DIFFUSSION EXPEIRMENT REFLECTION

Our experiments were very tough because of all the hard work we had to put into it. We did 2 experiments, one was an egg in vinegar, and the second was baking soda and vinegar mixed together.

We started off by first doing our egg in vinegar experiment and after ten minutes nothing changed and we started to regret our decision of doing this certain experiment. We came in the next day and the egg was amazing. The shell diffused and the egg white was the only think that showed and somewhere underneath that was the yolk. The next day we came in and the egg white was gone and now the yolk only showed. Mr. Ardito gave us permission to cut it open. We took the knife and then the egg splattered like a balloon and looked like an egg sunny side up, it was great.

Next we did our second experiment, baking soda and vinegar mixed together. Our hypothesis was correct because we have already learned what the results were because we used these ingredients for our fourth grade experiment when we made volcanoes. It first raised to the top, then back down, and fizzed for about 3 minutes 30 seconds just like we thought. It was really fun too.

After we got our data we both made power points to show what our results were in these experiments. If I had to say which one I liked better it would be the egg in vinegar just because of the cutting it open part. I thought that these experiments were great (not just because we had a party at the end), but because it was a great experience for the class. I would love to this again sometime!

mr.ardito my essay or reflection starts like this
Our science experiment was to see if the dye in the cup will be absorbed by the celery and our other experiment was that if we squashed the poison berries in water will the color of the poison berries spread but it didn’t work. Then after we gathered of research, we agreed to make a poster to represent all our data.

Diffusion Experiment Reflection

Me and whitestripe did 2 experiments, one was putting vinegar in baking soda and one was putting an egg in vinegar.

My partner and I worked together on the whole thing and split the work down the middle. I was in charge of the egg in vinegar experiment and he was in charge of the baking soda in vinegar experiment.

For the experiment we needed an egg, vinegar, spoon, ruler, paper towel, and a beaker.

Our experiments went as good as we expected except for the egg in vinegar, that we thought was going to take a couple of minets

Diffusion Experiment
Montell and I tested if dry ice in hot water would make more mist than dry ice in cold water. Another one of our experiments was coloring on fabric and seeing if hot water or cold water would make the marker dissolve faster.
These experiments taught me a lot about diffusion and how it works.
Not only was doing my experiment fun, but also looking at other experiments was also very interesting.
During the dry ice experiment, Montell and I learned a lot of interesting facts. For example, in the movies when they want to make a scene with fog, they take tons and tons of dry ice and hot water then take fans and set them on low. This gives the appearance of real fog.
During our dissolving experiment, we learned that hot water kills germs better then cold water, just incase you did not know. ☺ It also dissolves faster than cold water.
I did not like that when we showed the class our presentations, we could not stand up and explain it. But even though we did not get to do that, I still liked to look at other groups work.
Montell and I worked well. Together. When we were finished with our experiments, we found they did not turn out anything like we expected. The dry ice made the same amount of mist in both waters.
This experiment was interesting and fun. I hope we do something like it later in the year. By Alex B

Our experiments went as good as we expected except for the egg in vinegar, that we thought was going to take a couple of minutes it actually took around 48 hours to dissolve the shell which was our hypothesis in the beginning everything else went well.

After we got our data we made separate power points and presented them with everyone else and we had a party.

These experiments were good because they helped me understand diffusion better and it would be cool to do them again.

I think my experiment was good because me and my partner got resuals that we wanted like on the purple fabric experiment we said that the hot waterwould osuorba all the purple and the dry ice we said that the dry ice would have a lot of smock in the hot water
